About the Conference


The International Law Association (ILA), Nigeria Branch,invites scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to contribute to a critical dialogue on enhancing legal frameworks to support sustainable economic growth globally, through international law frameworks.This conference aims to explore the dynamic interplay between international law, trade, and investment in driving sustainable development. The conference agenda will elicit and interrogate diverse perspectives that address the legal mechanisms and reforms necessary to ensure economic integration, underpinned by international law, contributes positively to sustainable development outcomes.

Call for Papers


We invite original research papers that address, but are not limited to, the following topics:

  • International treaties and sustainable trade a d investment
  • Legal frameworks for environmental protection in trade and investment •
  • Trade disputes, commercial arbitration and sustainable development in resolving trade disputes sustainably
  • The impact of international trade laws on emerging economies
  • Intellectual property rights in the context of sustainable development

Publication Opportunity: Accepted papers will be published in the Scopus-indexed Journal of Sustainable Development Law and Policy (JSDLP). This provides an excellent platform for authors to disseminate their work to a global audience and contribute significantly to the academic and practical field of international law and sustainable development.

Submission Guidelines:

  1. Abstracts should be no more than 250 words, clearly outlining the research question, methodology, and expected findings.
  2. Full papers should be between 6,000 and 8,000 words, including footnotes.
  3. Contributions must adhere to the Oxford Standard for Legal Citation (OSCOLA).
  4. All citations should be formatted as footnotes.

Important Dates:

  • Abstract Submission Deadline: December 30, 2024
  • Notification of Acceptance: January 15, 2024;
  • Full Paper Submission: March 15, 2025
